What You’ll Learn
Chapter 1: Core Skills
In this first part of the course, you’ll get hands-on with your sewing machine and learn the key foundational skills every beginner needs. From threading your machine and stitching in a straight line to mastering hems and basic construction, you’ll build confidence while completing projects that are useful and fun. Unlike scattered YouTube tutorials, you’ll have clear, step-by-step guidance, with all the important details explained so you never feel lost or frustrated.
Chapter 2: Adding Structure
Once you’re comfortable with the basics, we’ll explore how to add shape and stability to your projects. You’ll learn techniques like boxing out corners, using fabric stabilisers, and even basic quilting, creating three-dimensional projects like baskets and tablet cases. Each project is designed to reinforce the skills you’ve already learned while introducing new ones in a manageable, practical way — no skipped steps or confusing instructions.
Bonus Module: Zips
Finally, we’ll tackle zips — one of the scariest things for many beginners. Through two guided projects, you’ll learn to insert zips with confidence and see how the techniques you’ve already practiced apply to these slightly more advanced finishes. By the end, you’ll be able to combine your new skills to create polished, professional-looking projects without needing to hunt for multiple videos or tutorials online.
Throughout the course, you’ll also pick up the essential sewing vocabulary naturally as you go, gain the satisfaction of completing projects from start to finish, and learn in a supportive environment that keeps you motivated. By the end, you’ll have the skills, knowledge, and confidence to tackle a wide range of sewing projects on your own — all while enjoying a bit of creative self-care along the way.
The Projects
In Ready, Thread, Sew! We learn through making! Each project is designed to teach you a specific skill and give you opportunity to practice it! The projects build on your skills as you progress through them so that, by the end of the course, you feel confident tackling a range of sewing projects!

Project 1: Tote Bag
This is my favourite starter project - a reversible tote bag! It is a great introduction to sewing with a straight stitch and will give you loads of opportunity to practice some basics such as sewing in a straight line and turning corners.

Project 2: Pencil Roll
This project gives you more opportunity to practice the skills from project one but also shows you how you can mark your fabric to help guide your stitches!

Project 3: Cushion Cover with Pocket
More sewing in a straight line this project will build on your skills and introduce you to using the skills you’ve been building to create hems.

Project 4: Tablet or Phone Stand
An introduction to how we can use the sewing techniques we’ve learnt along with a bit of fabric manipulation to create a 3d project.

Project 5: Fabric Basket
This is one of my favourite projects! You wouldn’t believe how many of these baskets I have! This is a really great introduction to using a fabric stabiliser and a boxing-out technique to create a 3D shape.

Project 6: Quilted Tablet Case
For this project we will build on the stitches you’ve learnt so far to create your own quilted fabric for making this quilted tablet case.

Bonus Project 1: Cushion Cover with a Zip
Most of this project will be really familiar to you by now, with just the exception of putting in the zip. You’ll be surprised how we use the skills and techniques you’ve been working on with minor adjustments to add in the zip - a bit of practice is all you need!

Bonus Project 2: Zipped Pouch
This project combines a few of the skills and techniques you’ve been building through out the course! We’ll quilt fabric, add a zip and box out corners to create this beautiful zipped pouch as your final project!
